One Patient Detailing Support Tools

A series of tools that collects and utilizes case information to deliver One Patient Detailing (OPD) support

One Patient Detailing (OPD) refers to the concept of medical representatives (MRs) providing physicians not only with information about their company’s products but also with data that is useful for the treatment of each individual patient. MRs can engage in OPD activities by using OPD Support Tools to collect and utilize case information. The tools facilitate communication with physicians and contribute to the medical treatment of each patient. Individual tools can be provided separately as needed.

System, Functionality, Benefits

OPD Solutions Concept

1) Promotes communication with physicians

  • Communication that is patient-focused, rather than product-focused
  • Deeper understanding of physicians’ thoughts and expectations

2) Contributes to treatment of patients

  • Detailed follow-up of each case
  • Provision of evidence-based information on prescriptions and safety

Case Follow-up

With this tool, the MR can collect information on the patient’s status and course of treatment, and share this information with the physician, enabling him/her to provide support in prescribing medication that is appropriate for the patient’s status and treatment process.

Benefits
  • Contributes to proper drug usage
  • Promotes retention of previously-treated cases

Adverse Event Case Search

This tool allows the MR to help physicians make appropriate prescription decisions by showing specific adverse events on a case-by-case basis. With this tool, the information must come from authorized Post-Marketing Surveillance (PMS) data.

Benefits
  • Enhances medical safety and contributes to proper drug usage

Positioning Map

This tool enables the MR to gain a clear understanding of what physicians think – e.g., their assessment of a drug’s safety and effectiveness – and what prescriptions they tend to offer in response to their patients’ conditions, so that the MR can provide the appropriate detailing materials that are needed to fill gaps in information, and detailing activities can be conducted effectively.

Benefits
  • Facilitates understanding of what physicians think of different drugs and why they prefer certain drugs
  • Allows for detailing that is consistent with the perceptions of physicians
